Happy Year of the Monkey!

This is the week for celebrating! We’re just about to start a long, holiday weekend to celebrate those we love through Valentine’s Day and Family Day on Sunday and Monday respectively; Mardi Gras was Tuesday; and Chinese New Year, which kicks off their Spring Festival, was last Sunday. This is the biggest Chinese holiday, celebrated all over the world, and boasts over 4000 years of history. Learn more about Chinese New Year here.

I spent a week in Singapore in early 1999. I unfortunately had to leave just before Chinese New Year, and missed the celebrations, but caught a glimpse into the traditions while in Ottawa in 2014. I enjoyed my first dim sum with a friend from school, then took in a parade in Ottawa’s Chinatown. Below are some photos from that day.
